Terms and Definitions

A system is understood to be a computer including hardware, operating system, and other software. In other words, the use of the term system implies a computer as a whole. The terms program and application will be used interchangeably. A program will not be regarded as a part of an operating system, although many operating systems are delivered with a variety of programs such as editors, calculators, and so on. A detailed definition of what will be understood as an operating system will be delivered in section 3.1.3.
In using the term user, computer users in general are meant. Whenever a special category of users are referred to, for example novice users, such references will be highlighted.
