GymTracker is a lean workout journal for the gym, for your iPhone. You record the weight and reps you managed, and see over time whether you’re making progress. No account, no frills, no third-party cloud.
In short
- A simple workout journal: sets, weight, and reps captured in seconds.
- Exercises, machines, and gyms kept neatly separate, so your numbers stay comparable.
- An estimated 1RM for every set, calculated automatically.
- Your strength progress per exercise as a chart over time.
- Values filterable by gym and machine.
- Synced privately and automatically via iCloud across all your iPhones.
At a glance
- Log sets: weight × reps captured quickly; the last set can be reused for the next one.
- Exercises with category: Push, Pull, Legs, Core, or Cardio, plus the distinction between compound and isolation exercise.
- Machines with manufacturer: record which machine you trained on.
- Gyms: multiple gyms with location; each workout belongs to a gym.
- Estimated 1RM: a comparable strength value, even when weight and reps vary from time to time.
- Progress chart: your e1RM over time, with a best value and an average line.
- Filters: narrow the history to a specific gym or machine.
- iCloud sync: your data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud.
Logging workouts
Captured quickly instead of typed at length. You create a workout with a date and gym and add the exercises you do. Each set is simply “reps × weight”, optionally with a short note. So you don’t start from scratch every time, the app reuses your last set as a template for the next; usually you only need to adjust the reps.
The sets of a workout are grouped by exercise and numbered. With a swipe gesture you edit or delete a set.
Exercises and machines
Structure that fits your training. Each exercise gets a category and an indication of whether it’s a compound or isolation exercise. You create machines with a name and manufacturer and assign them to an exercise.
Why bother with the machines? Because “80 kg” on one manufacturer’s leg press isn’t the same as “80 kg” on another’s machine. GymTracker records the weight as shown on the machine, and by separating by machine you end up comparing apples to apples.
Gyms
For when you don’t always train in the same place. You can create multiple gyms, each with a location. Each workout belongs to a gym, so it stays clear where a given performance happened, handy when you find different machines on vacation, at a second gym, or at home.
Seeing progress
Numbers that show whether you’re making progress. You pick an exercise and see its history: the estimated 1RM over time as a line chart, plus your best value and an average line. With the filters you narrow down to a single gym or machine, or to free weights without a machine. Below the chart, every individual performance is listed again.
What “estimated 1RM” means
The 1RM (one-rep max) is the weight you could theoretically lift exactly once. Instead of actually testing it, GymTracker estimates it from weight and reps using the well-known Epley formula. That way you get a comparable value even if you train heavy with few reps one day and lighter with many on another.
Sync and privacy
GymTracker stores your training data locally on the device and syncs it through your private iCloud database (CloudKit). There is no third-party server in between, your data belongs to you and stays in your Apple account.
GymTracker is free and is financed through discreet banner ads from Google AdMob. On first launch the app asks for your consent, as required by iOS, and you decide whether personalized advertising is allowed. Your training data is not used for advertising.
System requirements
- iPhone with iOS 17 or newer
- For syncing: signed in to iCloud (your Apple ID). Without iCloud the app works normally, with your data staying locally on the device.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. You don’t have to register anywhere for the app itself. For syncing between multiple devices, you simply sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID as usual.
Where is my data stored?
Locally on your iPhone and in your private iCloud database. There is no additional third-party server.
What is the “estimated 1RM”?
A comparison value for your maximal strength, calculated from weight and reps (Epley formula). You don’t have to test a maximal weight.
Why does the app separate by machine and gym?
Because the same weight figure means different things on machines from different manufacturers. Separating them keeps your progress curves meaningful.
What does GymTracker cost?
The app is free and shows a discreet banner ad in return.
Is my training data analyzed for advertising?
No. Your entries stay in your iCloud. The ads come from Google AdMob; whether they are personalized is something you decide yourself on first launch.
Does the app also run on iPad or Mac?
GymTracker is an iPhone app.
Do I need a constant internet connection?
Not for logging, that works offline. A connection is only needed for iCloud sync and to show the ads.
