Heatmap

A heatmap is a matrix-style visualization where cells are color-coded according to data values. It’s ideal for showing magnitude across two dimensions, helping to detect patterns, trends, and anomalies.

Common use cases include showing website traffic by day and hour, correlations between variables, or performance metrics across departments and months. The intuitive color scale makes it easy to spot “hot” or “cold” areas at a glance.

Heatmaps are widely used in digital analytics, life sciences (e.g., gene expression), and operations dashboards. They require thoughtful color scaling and labeling to remain interpretable and effective.
