Human-Computer Interaction and Interfaces

The question whether current interfaces support users in their assumption that their knowledge of human-human interaction can be applied to human-computer interaction cannot be answered clearly. Since most systems are designed for all user groups, it is almost impossible to meet everybody's needs. Furthermore, while humans are able to adjust their utterances to the conversation partner, most systems are not. Thus, an error message which is comprehensible for a novice user, might offer too little information for a power user and vice versa. Some systems provide additional information (for example, a Microsoft Windows General Protection Fault), but this is not possible in all cases. As a consequence, current systems cannot support users in their assumption.
